About The Course

The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities is continuing from the date of its inception with a mission of imparting teaching and promoting implementation of practical aspects of Applied Sciences and Humanities to build a solid foundation as part of the Engineering Eductaion.

Vision & Mission

The vision is set for opening up research areas in the field of Applied Sciences and Humanities, there by ensuring the scope for imparting Masters courses in the relevant subjects belonging to the field of Applied Sciences and Humanities.

Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities offers Applied Sciences and Humanities Coursesas prescribed by the curriculum of the University in the 1st year of Engineering programme. So, there is a strong need to build a strong foundation for the prospective and promising Engineers. Our Department is backed by well-educated, talented and dedicated faculty members to fulfill this task. In addition to the primary teaching duties discharged by them, many of them have their publications in National as well as International Journals of repute for attaining perfection in their profession. The subjects taught by teachers of this department are of prime importance for all round growth and development of students. Teachers are always ready to guide their students whenever they are being approached. The Department is carrying a mission to create and disseminate knowledge and tools in intellectual areas at the interfaces between areas of engineering and other core areas of Applied Sciences and Humanities.

    Applied Sciences Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities (foundation of Engineers) is one of the indispensable departments of LRIET, Solan and plays a vital role in teaching basic Sciences courses for engineering students of all branches. The department of Applied Sciences is striving hard for amplification of the fundamental aspects and developing the overall personality the aspiring and budding engineers. The purpose of applied sciences in Engineering study is to lay a well-built foundation of vital principles of various disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computers, Electronics, Mechanics and Communicative English in the mind of the learners, so that they exploit the potential of the present day opportunities in professional careers. The Applied Sciences staff is well qualified, dedicated to identify and resolve students’ queries so that the overall personality of the student can be groomed in such a manner that they pass out as Industry Ready Professionals. Physics, Chemistry, Communicative English Laboratories have been very well established not only to make them compatible with the practical aspects but to motivate students to learn beyond the syllabus which definitely develops complete knowledge of the subject. The department provides its students with a number of opportunities to develop their skills, personality by participating in various culture and co-curricular activities. The faculty members take keen interest in organizing these activities.

  • Learning process and methodology

    Industrial Training(2 months)

    • The students spend their entire semester (6th) in an industry of relevance for their 2 months industrial training.
    • The student is permitted to join the training only if it is approved by the department.
    • During the course of the training, faculty visits the industry to monitor the performance and conduct of the students working as trainees.
    • Students submit a report on the conduct of training and also give a seminar/presentation in the class.
    • Training awards are based on performance in training, feedback report of the faculty, training manager, training report, mid semester report, daily diary, viva voce conducted by external examiner besides the value addition in students to increase their professional competence.

    Project Work

    • All the final year students are required to undergo a major project in their final academic semester.
    • Both the project works are held under the supervision of senior faculty members.
    • The project may be sponsored or facilitated by the industry.

    Interaction with the Industry

    We believe that engineering education is incomplete without the support and collaboration of the industry. For this purpose, the department has developed strong linkages with the industry and renowned academic institutions. The interfacing with the industry helps the students in the following areas:
    • Industrial visits- wherein the students get an opportunity to see the real application of engineering.
    • Expert lectures- The experts from various fields share their expertise and knowledge with the faculty and the students.
    • Workshops on specific technologies- The students get a hand on experience in these workshops
    • Conferences & Symposiums- The students get an opportunity to explore their research potential
    • Institutional & Industrial Training- Interfacing with the industry opens up multidimensional avenues for the students

    For all the aforesaid purposes, students are actively involved. The students have been identified as student coordinators who are working together in order to meet these objectives. Besides, these activities also inculcates managerial & leadership qualities in the students. The student coordinators are well guided and supported by two faculty members of the department who have been identified as industrial coordinators.
