Department of Civil Engineering

The Civil Department was started in the year 2002 and since then it has brought good academic results. All the faculty members of the department are working hard to get good academic results of its students and are also helping its faculty and students to have a good personal growth.

The course provided by institution is one of the introductory programming courses. Topics focus on the introduction to the engineering of civil applications emphasizing modern civil engineering principles: object-oriented design, decomposition, encapsulation, abstraction, and Construction.

The rapid advances in civil engineering technology in today's highly technological society have resulted in a continuing demand for civil engg. graduates. The civil and structure prepares you as professional to be able to apply the basic principles of civil and the latest technological advancements to solve problems in business, education, and government. You may work as systems analyst who designs solutions to specific problems or become an application programmer to translate these solutions into different software, or technical support professional who resolves a wide range of problems related to civil engineering.

Welcome to the department of Civil Engineering. We at department of CE believe that learning is a continuous process and does not end with the acquisition of a degree, especially because steady and rapid advances in civil technologies shorten the life of tools and techniques prevalent today. Therefore we do not aim to make our students walking manuals of any language or package. Instead, they are given a strong foundation in civil and problem-solving techniques, and are made adaptable to changes. We aim at offering the best quality education. The syllabus of CE has been planned to offer a blend of computers, communication technologies and other information retrieving/processing tools so as to provide the student with the requisite knowledge for solving real life problems thereby enabling them to enter the world of opportunities with flying colours and capitalize the huge Construction Industry.

    Graduates of Civil Engineering Programme will have the ability
    • An ability to apply knowledge of computing, mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and civil engineering theory in design of computer-based systems to real-world problems.
    • The ability to practice civil engineering using up-to-date techniques, skills, and tools as a result of life-long learning ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
    • An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a field program to meet desired needs, within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
    • An ability to design a system or component to satisfy stated or code requirements of Civil Engineering.
    • An ability to analyze a problem, and identify, formulate and use the appropriate computing and civil engineering requirements for obtaining its solution.

  • Learning process and methodology

    Industrial Training(2 months)

    • The students spend their entire semester (6th) in an industry of relevance for their 2 months industrial training.
    • The student is permitted to join the training only if it is approved by the department.
    • During the course of the training, faculty visits the industry to monitor the performance and conduct of the students working as trainees.
    • Students submit a report on the conduct of training and also give a seminar/presentation in the class.
    • Training awards are based on performance in training, feedback report of the faculty, training manager, training report, mid semester report, daily diary, viva voce conducted by external examiner besides the value addition in students to increase their professional competence.

    Project Work

    • All the final year students are required to undergo a major project in their final academic semester.
    • Both the project works are held under the supervision of senior faculty members.
    • The project may be sponsored or facilitated by the industry.

    Interaction with the Industry

    We believe that engineering education is incomplete without the support and collaboration of the industry. For this purpose, the department has developed strong linkages with the industry and renowned academic institutions. The interfacing with the industry helps the students in the following areas:
    • Industrial visits- wherein the students get an opportunity to see the real application of engineering.
    • Expert lectures- The experts from various fields share their expertise and knowledge with the faculty and the students.
    • Workshops on specific technologies- The students get a hand on experience in these workshops
    • Conferences & Symposiums- The students get an opportunity to explore their research potential
    • Institutional & Industrial Training- Interfacing with the industry opens up multidimensional avenues for the students

    For all the aforesaid purposes, students are actively involved. The students have been identified as student coordinators who are working together in order to meet these objectives. Besides, these activities also inculcates managerial & leadership qualities in the students. The student coordinators are well guided and supported by two faculty members of the department who have been identified as industrial coordinators.

  • Placements

    The department supports and coordinates with the Centralized Training & Placement Cell of CT group for all placement related activities viz. interview preparation, inviting the companies for the placement drives and conduct of the same.

    For all the aforesaid purposes, students are actively involved. The students have been identified as student coordinators who are working together in order to meet these objectives. Besides, these activities also inculcates managerial & leadership qualities in the students. The student coordinators are well guided and supported by two faculty members of the department who have been identified as industrial coordinators.

  • Facilities

    Civil Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. We started the Civil Engineering branch in the year 2010.The aim of the department is to impart quality education and groom budding civil engineers to be effective contributor to the society, nation and the world as a whole. Faculty as well students in the department, are encouraged to keep themselves abreast with latest advancements in the field of civil Engineering through various activities at academic front. Department provides ample opportunities to its students for developing their organization skills and personality development through various extra-mural and co-curricular activities as well.

    Concrete Lab

    In the Concrete Lab located in L.R Institute, students practice the concrete design process from the design stage to the full fabrication and testing of samples. Students start by testing and analyzing the aggregates, then they design the required mix in accordance to specific standards. Upon determining the proper proportions of the mix, it is then prepared in the lab. Fabricated samples are cured in a humid control room, and at the end of the curing process, they are tested in order to determine the mechanical properties of the concrete mixture.

    StrFuctural Mechanics Lab

    Equipped with various instruments for structural analysis of different materials like steel beams, cantilevers, trusses etc.

    Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Lab

    Equipped with latest and automated testing machines for various kinds of flows and conducting extensive surveying.

    Computer Aided Design Lab

    This lab possesses the latest software and computers required for structural solutions and design in Civil Engineering. The laboratory is equipped with AUTOCAD, STAAD, PRO, Windows XP, Ms-Office, Visual Studio, Audio Visual aids to technical and non-technical problems using computers. The department undertakes a number of National Level Projects.

    Soil mechanics and Geo-technicalFF

    Tensile Test and Compression Tests are done on Universal Testing Machine.

    Environment Engineering Lab

    In this lab students learn water & effluent testing: Consultancy services are also provided for:

    1. Water Testing.
    2. Effluent Testing, BOD, COD Testing.
    3. pH value, acidic value and viscosity of solution.

    Transportation and Highway Engineering lab

    This lab deals with road construction materials. Various tests taught to the students are – Aggregate Test, Crushing Value, Abrasian Value, Imoact. Shape Test, Flakiness Index, Sieve Analysis, Sp. Gr. and Water Absorption, Stripping Test. Bituminous Test, Penetration Test, Ductility Test, Softening Point Test, Flash and Fire Point Test, Viscosity Test, Bitumen Extraction Test.
